Hello,

Hope you are having a good Friday!

It sort of feels like we are slipping quite nicely into Autumn at our end, the veg is flowing, the orders are coming and we are enjoying being inside that bit more than the summer months.

It’s this season when I am very much glad that I am not on the farming side of this industry. When I collected from Andy at Living Potential and Sarah at Passion4Plants on Monday both were dripping wet through! Andy had been out in the rain harvesting for 4 hours, but I guess it beats an office job…ish?

A new conundrum I’m having to navigate this autumn is how I can balance what Living Potential (in particular) has in abundance vs what people might be interested in having in their boxes as the seasons are changing. Andy has LOTS of salad items still but I’m sure most people are now moving to warmer meals for the cooler months.
So my options are either say no, we don’t want it and leave him without a sales outlet and potentially go to taste. (We are pretty much taking all of his produce right now).
Or very delicately try to get these things into our boxes without being overwhelmingly leafy.

I want to support Andy as much as possible in his first year of growing so I’m trying to go with the latter. So this week I’ve put leafy salad bags in most boxes and a far bit of cavolo nero.

This year is a bit weird for Living Potential as it’s very much a test year, hence why they are being left with fairly large quantities of produce. In future years they’ll have a better idea of what will grow, when and for how long.
But if you are interested in any more of his leafy items then there is rocket, red Russian kale, parsley flat and curly and spinach also available. Andy has also added a few new items including winter savoy cabbage, runner beans, french beans and some apples!

Passion4Plants have a pretty similar offering this week with their last few tomatoes trickling through - salad red cherry and mixed colours. They’ve also got some very nice looking red onion squash up for grabs.

Elsewhere from the UK there are surely two standout items across boxes to look out for. Beautiful purple graffiti cauliflower grown in Lancashire by Royal Oak and Pitmaston Pineapple apples from Carey Organics.
The latter is an old English lightly russet-ed apple with an unusual pineapple-like flavour. Very excited to try these as I can’t remember if we’ve ever had them in our boxes before...? Does anymore remember this name from previous apple seasons?

Have a great weekend
Thanks
Sam
