Hello
Hope you are having a great week.
When I started Leeds Veg Box, next week is what I hoped it would become!
We would gather veg from as close as possible to the people of Leeds, prepare it in our warehouse and deliver it to your houses fresh out of the ground. It’s taken a long time to get here, with a fairly limited local supply this year but I hope with our supply chain starting to fill out, we can continue this momentum. I don’t know of anywhere else you can shop from your home, buying locally grown food from multiple different local farms, supporting local agriculture, the local economy and enjoying harvested on demand veg.
To be honest, it is the complete opposite way that every major retailer has gone.
It’s a proud moment where I can say that next week you can buy over 40 different crops from 5 different farms all within LS postcodes.
It's going to be getting better! I am in the final stages of planning logistics and getting ready to introduce another brand new grower to you based in LS29. This could be happening as soon as next week!
There is so much local veg in boxes next week I've had to add letters after the veg name to help Matthew and Josh understand what is suppose to be going into which boxes.
So any product you see with P4P at the end is from Passion4Plants in LS8, LP is Living Potential in LS22, MW is Meanwood Valley Urban Farm in LS7 and the little black flag that you may or may not be able to read says locally grown, that means it's grown in Leeds!
Sarah & Rob at Passion4Plants will be supplying us with their legendary garlic (printanor & thermidor) along with tomatoes, two types of cucumbers, french beans, lettuce, edible flowers, microgreens, pea shoots and they even have a few strawberry plants up for grabs!
This week Andy from Living Potential will mostly be focusing on leafy greens as sadly some of their beans got damaged with the high winds. They’ve got rainbow chard, cavolo nero, red Russian kale, two types of parsley and two types of salad bags, one more leafy and one more fancy.
They’ve also got a new product - a stir fry mix which is a mix of kale, cabbage, herbs and spring onions!
Ben and the team at Meanwood Valley Urban Farm have got two types of tomatoes, a whole array of herbs, including dill and basil, beetroot, 2 types of courgettes and 3 types of kale!
Ed and Niall are bringing us the best gourmet mushrooms in Leeds from Yorkshire Mushroom Emporium.
And finally, all of the alexa potatoes in boxes next week will be coming from The Organic Pantry in LS24.
With all the excitement of local veg I have forgotten to mention that next week I am tentatively launching two new boxes.
Both these boxes have come at customer request so hopefully they'll be received well!
Have a fantastic weekend and enjoy the British growing season whilst it’s here!
Thanks
Sam
