Hello,
Hope you’ve all had a great week.
For the next two weeks there'll be no Living Potential or Meanwood Valley Urban, however this week I am very happy to introduce a new grower to you!
In her first year and in another beautiful, picturesque Yorkshire walled garden, Beth at Denton Reserve, Ilkley LS29 has already begun to do some great work!
The walled garden is set within a 2000 acre estate, centred around Denton Hall which is currently being renovated and turned into a hotel with sustainability at its heart. Beth and the team are already growing seasonal veg for the onsite pub, The Penny Bun and will be providing veg for the hotel guests when it opens in 2025. As well as supplying the estate with their fresh veg they are also looking to wholesale veg to companies like Leeds Veg Box.
All of the above was completely unbeknown to me but I was delighted to hear from Beth around a month ago asking if I’d like to buy any locally grown veg. The answer was of course yes, and here we are a few weeks later with a order pending for around 200 portions of veg for our boxes next week!
As with all new startups, there could potentially be some stumbling blocks/errors with transport/packing/potential wilting etc. But, I’m sure you’ll agree, an opportunity too good to miss out on. If you do have any issues just let me know. All veg from Denton Reserve next week has DR next to their name.
Next week Beth will be supplying us with plenty of Swiss chard, rainbow chard, spinach, round courgettes, mixed green courgettes and an array of herbs including thai basil, curly parsley and flat parsley.
Interestingly, Beth, who was previously growing down in Bristol has gone a slightly different route to many other growers and has concentrated on perfecting only a few crops this year rather than spreading herself thin across many varieties. This has worked great with our current numbers and you’ll find many of her crops straight into our boxes.
Next week Passion4Plants have one of their biggest hauls of the year so far with some of the most exciting additions including red cherry salad tomatoes, 3 types of cucumbers, including a new type for this week marketmore, runner beans, padron pepper, hungarian hot wax chillies and red onion squash, all of which will be very limited.
Happy shopping!
Thanks
Sam
