Hello

Hope you had a good week!
Our week was a little annoying with lots of little small issues that took up quite a bit of time. When it runs smoothly it’s all good but as soon as little things go wrong then it starts to have a knock on effect on the other smooth running parts. Massive oranges, tiny avos - they all mean having to make adjustments to boxes to make the stock work for the amount of orders we have on. I buy everything blind and have to guess what size things will be - give me some nice medium sized fruit and veg any day!

There are more fantastic new products this week including…

  • Coconut milk, coconut cream and jackfruit all from Coconut Merchant. Their company strapline is ‘Everything. Ethically. Coconut’ which very directly tells you everything you need to know. Their products are organic, preservative free, non-GMO gluten and dairy free, suitable for vegans and ethically sourced in partnership with farmers from Sri Lanka. And yet they are still quite a bit cheaper than Blue Dragon who put E numbers in their cans, are non organic and not ethically sourced! Huh?!
  • Next up we have the best vegetable stocks around from Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage Organics. These stocks are made in collaboration with 9 Meals From Anarchy and make approximately 9 litres of stock per jar. They are made with a whooping 75% veg, they are organic and use half the amount of salt compared with most stocks. They are also yeast, gluten, sugar and palm oil free! There are 5 flavours to choose from including, classic, ultimate umami, tomato and basil, smoky-spicy and garlic and herb
  • And the last new products this week are some amazing organic pastas from Pastificio Carleschi. Pastificio Carleschi launched in 2019 as the first British Artisan Organic dry pasta producer in the UK. They use British Spelt, Emmer and Einkorn stoneground flour as well as fava beans sourced from some of the most regenerative-minded farmers (Hodmodods) and millers in the UK. Their factory is fully run on green energy and their packaging is 100% plastic free. Listed are several of their white and wholemeal spelt pastas as well as einkorn pasta. You won’t find a better pasta that straddles quality, sustainability, taste and value than Pastificio Carleschi, they can be viewed here

Butter is restocked after selling out the first week.

I’ve got one new fruit item - limes! These can be added to your delivery as a one off, weekly or fortnightly. If there is interest in the product it’ll also likely drop in price quite a bit as I can buy bigger, cheaper boxes!

Next week the highlights should be UK salad, Leeds grown mushrooms, small washed parsnips (for roasting whole) and purple sprouting broccoli!

Salad is coming pre packed (not by us) from Lancashire via our wholesaler from Glebelands Organic Produce. Please be aware this may contain mustard. We will hopefully have some Leeds grown salad from Passion4Plants in the next month or so!
Sticking with Leeds, Ed (Thursday driver) from Yorkshire Mushroom Emporium has snuck some of his grey oysters into quite a few boxes next week. These are some premium mushrooms and definitely worth a taste if you haven’t already tried them. They can also be added to your delivery here
And there is quite a good amount of swaps available of purple sprouting broccoli from Bedlam Farms.

There are three types of UK cabbage available next week too (tis’ the season) - savoy, tundra and non hearted savoy.

Finally we’ve got two new products from a French cooperative called Uni-vert. They are France's leading organic cooperate with 70 farmers and will be supplying us with lettuces and inored apple's next week.

How’s that for an update full of lovely people and companies doing nice things in the world!

Have a great weekend
Thanks
Sam
