Hello,
The best thing about this job is you get to reset and start again every week.
What a shit show that first week back was. Failed emails and faulty websites which had a knock on to swaps and availability. Certain varieties I know will get swapped out of boxes (e.g swede) so I purposely under order them knowing a % will get swapped. But because the website swaps failed at the start of the week, that meant people couldn't swap them out of their boxes and we were short at the back end of the week.
So, sorry if you got any things you weren't expecting in your box last week. This was the first and hopefully last time such a website fault will occur! This has made me devise a better plan in dealing with how we handle subs. Last week I could not keep up with the changes and therefore wasn't able to inform all customers prior to deliveries of subs in their box. From next week I will aim to email all domestic customers with box changes prior to their box leaving the warehouse.
The positives of last week were it was our busiest ever week outside of Christmas (which is a very good thing to be able to say as a small independent business operating in these times) and we had a new packer start call Barat who has already appeared to overtake me after 2 days in the job...
Onto a new week we go....
Things are looking fairly tight again for swaps. I appear to have hit a little bit of a trend whereby all my new customers sign up just after I place my wholesale order and swallows up excess I had earmarked for swaps.
I will keep updating stock throughout the weekend when swapped out veg becomes available to give everybody the best chance to make changes.
This week I have included sicilian blood oranges in some boxes for the first time this season. I was going to roll these out to everybody but bottled it at the last minute because some years are better than others on these. Some years these do not travel well from Sicily so I thought it was best to check with a smaller sample size first before commiting. If they are good, needless to say all boxes with fruit in will be enjoying this short sweet season ASAP.
All boxes will however be enjoying tango clementines next week from Valencia, these are a sign we are moving into the next stage of citrus!
They'll be some Spanish padron peppers up for grabs, some excellent french lettuces, fantastic flat helda beans and hopefully some avos this week as last week the planned avos were poor and had to be rejected.
Leeds Bread Co-op continue with their Olive Sourdough for one more week.
Passion4Plants have a few more micro greens along with some very limited kale.
Have a great week
Thanks
Sam
