Hello,
Above I've added the overall Christmas plans so you are all in the know. The Christmas offering is still being finalised but I will let you know more details when I've got them!
I have one left over 2L whole milk from this week with a shelf life until Friday 26th if any Tuesday customers would like it at cost price drop me a message via email or whatsapp and I'll add it to your order.
I've spoken to my wholesaler about why the citrus we've been getting is coming through green still. Here is their response...
"The colour of the oranges is weather related. The green colour does not mean that they are not ripe and inside they should taste as expected. The orange colour in the skin is chlorophyll that protects the orange from sun damage. The skin will turn orange with cooler nights but if the weather is not as expected, ie the nights are not getting cold enough, then the skin will stay green. This does not mean they are unripe and are perfectly good to eat. The green colour is a result of the unusually warm weather for the time of year.
Because consumers are used to oranges being bright orange they are often treated for supermarket sale by artificially changing temp from hot to cold and back again or using ethylene gas or wax."
In my personal opinion the citrus is still well off in terms of taste that I would expect/hope for comparing to previous years for mid November so I will go easy on the Spanish citrus until the season beds in a bit. Although I do buy everything blind and pre order all fruit and veg, I'm also in the lucky position where I collect from my wholesalers twice a week so I can take a peek at other peoples orders to see what looks good.
That being said, there is of course a little bit of Spanish citrus in next week's boxes. Tuesday customers will be getting oronule clementines from Seville and Thursday customers the same clementines from Valencia, which yesterday was 27'c...
Leeds Bread Co-op have a new special which is their Oat, Raisin & Fennel loaf.
Passion4Plants have added more jerusalem artichoke and a new product green finger chillies.
With a lot of rain around recently the UK veg feelings fairly similar with most new addictions coming from abroad.
I've got some usually excellent flat helda beans in some boxes, some fantastic lettuces from France and some cherry vine tomatoes from Spain.
Have a great weekend
Thanks
Sam
